It's not every day that 'Neolithic' trends on Twitter! This looks amazing bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…
Hey guys we've unearthed an ancient ritual site that nobody knew about this is very wholesome and good and nothing untoward will come of it
whoa whoa whoa. 'The skull was already ancient when it went into the water – tests dated it to about 2,000 years older than the track.' Does this mean that they were using the same aurochs skull headdress/pole ornament in ceremonies for two thousand years?
'They now realise they did not pay enough attention when they were told that the traditional name of the field was Seven Springs.' Bit of a wince here - playing to the 'unbroken oral tradition' trope which is so often misleading
What I love most about this story is the way it has all the elements of a classic Folk Horror / Doctor Who / Quatermass setup. Building a new modern facility, unexpectedly unearth buried pagan stuff, ancient skull involved, burial mound at the centre of it all...
Because I am a colossal prat I have been quoting the Guardian's write-up of this story without linking to it, whoops. More detail here than in the BBC piece theguardian.com/science/2018/j…
