Humankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.

We can't be consumed by conspiracy theorists, crackpots, and dietary supplement salesmen anymore.
We will be united in our common interests. And probably memes.

Perhaps its fate that tomorrow is the 4th of July, and we will once again be fighting for our freedom, not just from tyranny, oppression, and persecution -- but from the fragility of conservative white men.
We're fighting for our right to live, to exist, to be fabulous and free.

And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice:
We will not go quietly into the night!

We will not vanish without a fight!

We're going to trend!

We're going to go viral!

Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!

I imagined an amalgamation of pop culture references that will surely connect with the reader and make me relatable. Clerks, Apu, Slurpee Day, snark on nutritional value of Doritos. Are you with me? Are you invested? I will now needlessly attempt to extract insight from this.

If Hillary Clinton slammed a table and stormed out of a meeting with congressional leaders, the major discussion in the press would revolve around the state of her mental health and if it constitutes a national security issue.
Men are allowed to be angry. Men are allowed to act like petulant children and still be taken seriously. Trump just manages to take that dynamic miles further than it’s ever been.
Hell, can you imagine if @AOC had slammed a table during a discussion with colleagues and stormed out of a meeting? Fox News would run coverage on that for days, if not weeks. Women, especially young women, especially women of color, are not freely extended the luxury of anger.

#History/#Art thread – From my recent trip to Madurai/Tirunelveli. On Jain sites (some with a rich history dating back to at least the 3rd cent. BCE), early Pandyan rock-cut cave temples (7th-8th cent. CE) & the amazing Vettuvan koil.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
