There's a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Trump's tariffs. Senators Corker and Menendez are pressing an assistant secretary of state, Manisha Singh, on the tariffs against Canada.
Menendez says he's sorry Singh was sent to the committee to defend the tariffs. Says she's not really "in the mix," was sent to the committee as "cannon fodder."
Corker pressed Singh on whether Canada is a national security threat. She repeated the admin's usual line: "Canada is not a national security threat," but the bad state of "the ability of our domestic companies to adequately produce aluminum and steel" is a security threat.
Corker on Trump's tariffs: "There absolutely is no plan. And in the mornings, people wake up and make this up as they go along."
