I’ve taken periodic breaks from this website, and I’m doing it again. What follows, ironically, is a thread explaining why, if anyone’s interested.
I can abide the trolls, and the bots, and the low-grade crappiness. For a long time, I saw it as the cost of getting timely news and comedy. What I can’t abide is the Nazis, and the hatred, and the misogyny, and the systemic corporate protection of Nazis, hatred, and misogyny.
.@jack’s defense of the decision to protect Alex Jones was pathetic. Jones is a nightmare person. When children were slaughtered in their classrooms, he attacked the families of the dead, and claimed they were actors.
He directed his army of fetid sludgepeople to harass the mourning families, making their lives immeasurably worse. Imagine burying your child and then having to literally flee your home because a raving cult leader and self-described "actor playing a role" says you're a liar.
And then imagine a social media website saying: sorry, that doesn't violate our rules.
I mean, look at this pathetic trough of cowardly corporate pablum. This is white hot garbage. 
America loves its freedom of expression, and for good reason. It’s vital. But to participate in the public square you have to maintain a very basic level of human decency. It’s minimal, by design, but it exists. Nothing Alex Jones says or does rises above that very low bar.
If you are a Nazi, or if you ruin people’s lives for sport, or if you attack the families of dead children, you forfeit your right to sit at the table. The idea that @jack and this stupid website would shrug and hide behind *their own rules* is absurd and cowardly.
At some point, you just have to conclude that they don't *want* to rid themselves of the hate and bile and Nazism. Rather, they are actively trying to find ways to allow it.
Meanwhile, on this same site, woman after woman is threatened, harassed, doxxed, assailed, screamed at. They have to beg and plead to get twitter to even mildly punish the men who do it. And it often doesn’t work.
I’m under no illusion that I “matter” here. There are celebrity pet accounts with ten times my followers. But I’ve tweeted 21,400 times. That’s so many times!
If my presence in one tiny corner of this godforsaken Russian bot playground enhances this product even a millionth of a percent, I’m part of the problem.
So, I’m leaving. Maybe someday they’ll rethink their disingenuous, faux-Libertarian love affair with the very worst people America has to offer. But for now: goodbye.
