Ten years ago today PFC Daniel McGuire was KIA by enemy fire in Fallujah. I remember the 1st day he came to our company while we were in the mid of CAX. When we came in from field, I found him & his gear on my rack, I promptly chewed his ass & had him running laps around the hut
He was a super boot, having just graduated SOI & sent to us 1 month before we deployed, so naturally he was the target of a lot of jokes & light hazing. We all liked him a lot, he was the company's little brother. Been a decade & I still remember him clear as yesterday
Daniel was 19yo and 1 yr removed from high school. I wish I could say his death had meaning, that it was in service of a noble cause, but the fact that we still have Marines dying there 10 years later is testament to the wasted youth of our generation of service members

This is sadly very true and it starts at the very top. For years Marine generals have have created a pervasive culture of misogyny thru words & policy. Marine boot camp is only non-integrated one in DoD. Every other branch has figured it out, ONLY reason USMC hasn't is sexism
Marine generals have spent countless hours testifying before Congress about inferiority of women Marines. When forced to allow women in combat roles, the tests & quals for those roles became much tougher overnight
The term WM (women Marines) has been used for decades by leadership & has always been a subtle dig & attempt to keep them as an other, outside REAL Marine warrior culture. This is also the real reason behind the policy of non-integration at boot camp

While this is funny on one level, it's deeply disturbing on another level: It's introducing profanity into something that should be sacred. Even the language used in scientific articles is held as neutral as possible, so as to avoid not just bias, but even the appearance of bias.
Now, as both an author and a reviewer of scientific papers I know that, except for physics, a lot of what is published in the empirical sciences is bullshit, biased and aimed at promoting one’s career rather than our knowledge of the world.

I’m starting a thread to document things I find in the FISA warrants that were just released. These will be in the form of observations I make as I work my way through it. First of all, the 412 pages includes all four warrants and the associated documentation.
