RIP John McCain, a genuine hero. Not just for Vietnam, but as a defender of democracy and fighter for freedom from Russia's tyranny in the Baltics, Ukraine & other Soviet states. His death feels like another gutpunch to the decent world. We needed his voice. We need it still.
John McCain in 2013 with friends Boris Nemtsov & Vladimir Kara-Murza who testified to Congress on "Russia's Dangerous Slide Backwards & Deteriorating Human Rights Situation." This was a warning. 2014: Putin invaded Ukraine, annexed Crimea; 2015: killed Nemtsov; 2016: aided Trump.
Moving interview w/ @vkaramurza on John McCain: One of the biggest lies propagated by Kremlin state media is that McCain was a Russophobe, Russia's enemy. In fact, he was profoundly honorable & decent, spoke truth about Kremlin thieves, murderers & liars.

My favorite part so far (paraphrasing): OK, so Manafort shared [presidential polling data] with Kilimnik. But why assume he lied when he failed to tell Mueller? He just forgot! He was so busy! After all, he was running a US presidential campaign. He can't remember EVerything. lol
Not only is NO COLLUSION a big lie. There’s so damn much collusion, it’s more like TREASON. We learned today 1) Manafort met Russian agent Kilimnik in Madrid during campaign, 2) Paulie shared polling data w/ him, & 3) They discussed “Ukrainian peace plan.” While Russia attacked.

#Russia is absolutely violating the #INFTreaty. If @RusEmbUSA is counting on the @StateDept to not provide evidence on this one, I bet they’re going to be very disappointed. But the real issue is #China… who isn’t a party to the treaty & who must be included in any new one.
… moreover, #Putin is a bonafide expert on missiles (& on #MissileDefense). If you speak Russian, this video shows him demonstrating his expert-level knowledge of these systems, particularly on #Romania’s #NATO Missile Defense System, a #Bush/#Obama plan.
… the truth is that #Russia’s flagrant violations of the #INFTreaty are a response to our #MissileDefense plans… which of course will only make use pursue such defenses even faster, & so on. Here’s another video where he threatens “retaliation.”

(1) I had the honor to meet with @SenJohnMcCain on four occasions in my life. The first was when I volunteered for his first Presidential Campaign in 2000. I was 18. I met him at the Rochester, NY Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Highland Park on a cold February Saturday evening.
2. I had spent the afternoon helping to set up the rally and in so doing, got to meet several Vietnam War Veterans, two of whom had served as POWs with Sen. McCain.
3. I’ll never forget the moment he stepped off his Straight Talk Express Bus and into the scrum of media, campaign staff, and adoring fans (at least a thousand people attended the rally in the cold and cramped conditions).
