I’ll be back fully on grid tmw but without pointing at any individual outlets, I find it patently absurd any legitimate press would be chasing this considering it involves zero real research and a few tweets from POTUS. You’re playing right into his hand.
just being frank when I say I’m disappointed by few press who didn’t cover the 55pages of rigid research on google’s data collection last week from a respected PHD but now chase this garbage based on an unscientific article and a few POTUS tweets. Your journal algorithms are off.
press can’t seem to stick to the more difficult, real issues with Google which already require getting past Google’s significant lobbying, $, influence network. So now the hearing(s) will go down rabbit holes rather than addressing real issues. This is patently absurd. Seriously.
At this point today, it would appear president can tweet tomorrow about google subsidies of free lunches impacting restaurant jobs and it would get more coverage than their antitrust issues the rest of the world is addressing.
And I honestly think industry has spent more time on this issue today than they did on really understanding the true risks to Google from GDPR and more restrictive data protection policy.
If this is really based on that PJ article combined with Atkinson’s chart then the only thing it deserves is the President is threatening a company based on one person’s opinion of the world rather than actual research. And at best maybe an explainer on things really work.
I’ll be happy if someone tomorrow simply writes “Jason Kint, who is normally a reliable critic of Google, defended Google on this particular claim and called the entire charade patently absurd and a distraction from the real issues with Google’s business model and practices.”
