Only potential problem: advertisers can hyper-target in the way that won the election for Donald without a user's privacy being compromised... In majority of cases, you're targeting people without getting to know who they are, based on past behavior. It's FB's whole model.

Today I'm ignoring that embarrassing sideshow of a president in favor of writing a thread about just a few of the many things about last night's election that are making me *really* happy today. Feel free to add on to it!
First, I just want to point out that for the Dems to have re-taken the House in an economy this strong is very impressive. Unseating incumbents is *really* hard to do & doing so in a strong economy, nearly impossible. Many candidates who did it were 1st timers too. Uh. May. Zing.
Next, I’m thrilled Dems gained SIX new state trifectas, states where they control gov's office & both legislature chambers. Like CA, these states can now push back hard against the horror show coming out of DC, especially NY, which is now _officially_ East Coast Resistance HQ.

Judiciary Committee chairman Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley opens the hearing. "Both Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh have been through a terrible couple weeks," he says, citing threats they have received.
Grassley apologizes to both Ford and Kavanaugh for how they've been treated. He says he wants a hearing that is "safe, comfortable and dignified" for both of them, and wants "civility" from his senator colleagues.
Grassley is defending Kavanaugh: "Nowhere in any of these six FBI reports...was there a whiff of any issue, any issue at all, related in any way to inappropriate sexual behaviour."

I'm a sociologist who studies adolescent sexual violence. On this thread, I will be live tweeting the #Kavanaugh hearing, chiming in with sociological insights and research findings.
Full disclosure--I will probably step away for parts of it. While many conservatives have cast feminists as people who rejoice at allegations of sexual assault against powerful men, this is a painful process for us. We know survivors. We are survivors. And I will need breaks.
It does not bode well that the beginning of this hearing is starting with equating #Kavanaugh and #Ford's experiences with harassment following Dr. Ford's allegations. They are absolutely not the same.

The level and layers of harassment are intended to force women out of running for office by men who don't want the challenge from female candidates. Some women feel terrorized by the harassment.
