But more recently they are making a big thing over women’s prisons, and trans women being in them. They say this is because they care about protecting (cis) women in these prisons. They are lying.
The Howard League have great resources on sexual violence in women’s prisons. Going to reiterate, the next tweets will talk about sexual violence.
The biggest source of sexual violence in female prisons comes from fellow (cis) women prisoners when someone has a visitor suspected of supplying them with contraband. After seeing the visitor, the inmate will often be held down by their fellow inmates and, well, cavity searched.
This is called “decrotching”.

In fact, if you look at the stats, trans women in prisons are significantly LESS likely to be involved in perpetrating sexual violence than cis women.

There seems little doubt, they don’t care about sexual violence in women’s prisons. They don’t care about abuse. They don’t campaign on any of it unless there is a trans angle.
So next time you get a glossy leaflet with a photogenic cis woman and lots of blurb about how there are “genuine concerns” about trans equality measures, remember this: if there’s no trans angle, these concerns evaporate.

Addendum - note the absolute denial that cis women can be responsible for sexual violence in women’s prisons, despite them being overwhelmingly the main perpetrators of it. Prison guards get a brief mention and then dismissed because, you know, the trans.
