The Left has made 'I Believe Women' a moral code of ethics and an oath they all must take to prove they are good and just people. They chant this phrase as a religious mantra, an affirmation. They are dedicated to the idea they will honor the oath at any cost as moral virtue.
This developed, as most progressive ideas do, from a genuine hope for justice in an unjust world that has long denied and demeaned women specifically who accused men of rape or assault. But as progressivism always manifests, its desire to compensate has become authoritarian.
Once an accuser is covered under the umbrella of 'belief', regardless of the details of her accusation, individual liberals feel morally obligated to chant 'I Believe Her!' and become so deeply entrenched in the affirmation they view all counter evidence as an immoral attack.
Their belief is based on the past and how women were dismissed in previous eras. So now they view *all* counter evidence in the same way, dismissing it one by one with slogan-like arguments they think exposes the singular goal of delegitimizing a woman for that sake alone.
Ford has become a symbolic representation of their movement and their ideals. She is an icon of everything their collective narrative is built on. A young woman, assaulted by entitled, powerful young men who became even more powerful leaders of our society, who spoke out.
At this point they are intellectually incapable of accepting her story may not be as she presented it and her accusation has nothing to substantiate it. In fact, the more her accusation is revealed to be inaccurate or flawed, the more they will champion it as valid.
The story becomes 'After surviving alone for decades she came forward and even after the media, conservatives and even the President tried to destroy her and everyone she relied on as witnesses abandoned her, she persisted, her experience stands alone and is inspiring and brave!'
Once a person has been designated a sacred martyr by the Left, all questioning, fact-checking and counter-revelations contradicting their story is viewed as evidence of the power of the sacrifice they have made for the whole of society. The 'If Satan isn't targeting you' thinking
It simply will not matter that Ford's story cannot be validated and has largely been contradicted by every named person involved. What she represents and, more importantly, what Kavanaugh represents, will be the religious narrative they need to revive their 'War on Women' cry.
The foundation of their movement is just. Women were denied justice simply for being women and the accusation of a man alone could damn them. But we should never 'believe.' We should listen and verify. The accused deserve to be heard and viewed as innocent as well.
Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. The accuser and the accused are viewed as equally truthful. The accuser presents as much evidence as is possible and the accused provides counter-evidence to defend themselves. Guilt must be without a doubt.
As to why the Left is selective in the women they believe. Progressivism is a moral political ideology that has a complex set of interchangeable rules. But each rule is based on the same concept of justice through consensus. The 'good of the whole' mindset.
The purpose of justice adapts to the needs of the movement. If an individual is a powerful voice in the movement and is fulfilling this need, that person becomes invulnerable to criticism and the whole will defend them at any cost to protect the progress they represent.
Therefore a powerful man who is acting on behalf of the whole will be immune from accusations of sexual assault because the accusation will be viewed as an attack on the movement itself and not him. In the same way they ignore counter-evidence of their other icons.
It is only when that person loses their usefulness that they become vulnerable depending on their social status. The mood of the mob can change like a school of fish if the narrative requires it. But until that moment they will refuse to accept anything that threatens their goals
The progressive will rationalize that even though their leader may be flawed, he is leading the cause to justice and therefore they are not entitled or authorized to judge him. They are a collective and believe if the movement as a whole rejects the accusation, it must be false.
It must be noted that the individual liberal uses this same standard when discovering a growing outrage. If other women believe her, it must be true. Male liberals rationalize 'If I believe women and these women are championing this, I must champion them!' It becomes a following.
By the sheer force of 'I believe her!' and personal stories of experiencing what she has claimed to experience used as empowered unity, the individual liberal ceases all critical thinking and simply joins the collective emotion of the group. The emotion validates itself.
