I recently finished Ken Burns’ documentary on Vietnam & was overwhelmed by how many ppl were killed in that war.

Then I recently read something that said more Americans died of opioid overdoses just in 2016 than in the *entire* Vietnam War.

That stat knocked the wind out of me.
The opioid epidemic is such a profound public health crisis & while it is covered relatively well in the media, I still get the sense that many people (often including myself) don’t fully grasp how massive it is & how many people it touches.
And on the subject of the Ken Burns documentary I also wasn’t fully cognizant of how absolutely massive the death toll was among Vietnamese civilians. Millions upon millions of people killed. And for what?
