Beyond its basic absurdity—this is 1982, 17 YO binge drinking was absurdly common—it’s wrong on the facts. Kavanaugh wasn’t 18 till February 1983. That was old enough to drink in DC—18 age until Fall 1986—but not to get grandfathered in in MD, which went 21 in summer ‘82.
But hey, maybe Kavanaugh meant that just the seniors were drinking in DC, and never in MD and never before spring ‘83 for him. LOL.
Must have been an amazing beach week—his yearbook says he was in the Beach Week Ralph Club—throwing up all that soda on the eastern shore of MD (grandfathered 21 drinking age) and DE (20 drinking age in 1983).
Wait! He could have also bought beer (only) at a bar (but not in a store) in VA for the short period from February 1983 until VA raised the beer drinking age from 18 to 19 for all purchases, bar or store, in mid-1983. So maybe that’s what it was. LOL.
