Kavanaugh is seated at the witness table. Starting a new thread for his testimony. He says he wrote it himself and no one has seen a draft of this statement except for one of his former law clerks.
Kavanaugh, appearing angry, notes that Blasey Ford's friend Keyser says she does not know him and doesn't remember being at a gathering with him. "Think about that fact," he says.
Kavanaugh: "My family and my name have been totally and permanently destroyed" by false accusations.
Kavanaugh: "Listen to the people who've known me my whole life...and worked with...and dated, and taught...and had beers with...and listen to the witnesses who allegedly were at this event 36 years ago. Listening to Ms. Keyser."
Kavanaugh: "This confirmation process has become a national disgrace." He says the "advise and consent" function of Congress has become "search and destroy." He attacks "the left."
Kavanaugh seems absolutely furious, and it's not just directed at Blasey Ford. He says political opponents have proven they will do anything "to blow me up and take me down." He says the behaviour of Democrats on the committee at his last hearing was "embarrassing."
Kavanaugh: This is "a calculated and orchestrated political hit" because of "pent-up anger about President Trump." He says people are trying to exact revenge for Clinton. This is very, very partisan.
Kavanaugh: I won't be intimidated. "You've tried hard, you've given it your all, no one can question your effort, but your co-ordinated and well-funded effort...to destroy my good name will not drive me out."
Kavanaugh: You may defeat me in the final vote, but you'll never get me to quit.
Kavanaugh says he's never sexually assaulted anyone. Sexual assault is horrific, he says, and allegations need to be heard, but "due process means listening to both sides."
This is, to put it mildly, an unusual tone for a witness at a congressional hearing.
Kavanaugh says he's not questioning that Blasey Ford may have been sexually assaulted by "some person in some place at some time, but I have never done this."
Kavanaugh starts crying as he talks about his daughter suggesting they pray for "the woman."
Kavanaugh: "I never had any sexual or physical encounter of any kind with Dr. Ford. I never attended a gathering like the one Dr. Ford describes in her allegation." He says again that she "may have been sexually assaulted by some person in some place at some time."
Kavanaugh says he was at a "rigorous" high school at the time. When he went to parties, he says, it was usually with girls from certain "nearby" schools. "Dr. Ford did not attend one of those schools...She and I did not travel in the same social circles."
Kavanaugh again cites the fact that other people Blasey Ford said were present do not remember such a gathering. For this reason, he says, her allegation isn't just uncorroborated, "it is refuted...refuted."
Kavanaugh notes that Blasey Ford didn't live very close to this location but doesn't know whose house it was or how she got there. He says that she confidently remembered she had "one beer" there but not these other details.
Kavanaugh cries again as he talks about why he kept calendars as a teenager: he says his father was also a devoted keeper of calendars.
Kavanaugh: A drunken party like the one she describes would presumably happen on a weekend, but my calendars show I was out of town almost every weekend night that summer, except for one weekend; that weekend I was with my dad at a golf tournament and had a test the next morning.
Kavanaugh: Again, if this supposed gathering happened on a weekend night that summer, "my calendar shows all but definitely that I was not there."
Kavanaugh to people who have noted he didn't list church on his calendar: "I also didn't list brushing my teeth, and for me, going to church on Sundays was like brushing my teeth. Automatic."
Kavanaugh concedes that his calendars are "obviously not dispositive on their own." He calls them "another piece of evidence."
Kavanaugh: "I've always had a lot of close female friends. I'm not talking about girlfriends. I'm talking about friends who are women. That started in high school. Maybe it's because I'm an only child and had no sisters."
Kavanaugh is now listing his female friends by first name: "Laura...Megan...Nikki..."
Kavanaugh: "I liked beer. I still like beer. But I did not drink beer to the point of blacking out, and I never sexually assaulted anyone." He repeats that "I fully embrace" drinking beer, but he says you can't presume every beer-drinking high schooler is a sexual assaulter.
Kavanaugh: "Our yearbook was a disaster"; we apparently wanted it to be like recent-at-the-time movies Caddyshack or Animal House. We went along with the terribleness "to the point of absurdity." We now cringe.
Kavanaugh cries as he talks about his "disaster" of a high school yearbook.
