Sarah Sanders, talking about Kavanaugh, says Senate Democrats have shown "no regard for the process, decency, or standards."
Sarah Sanders attacks Schumer for saying there is "no presumption of innocence or guilt." Schumer was saying that that's because this is a nominee in front of the Senate, not a criminal defendant in a trial.
Asked why Trump attacked Blasey Ford, Sanders says, "The president was stating the facts." In fact, Trump lied that Blasey Ford said she didn't know whether the alleged assault happened upstairs or downstairs and that she remembered nothing about the night but her one beer.
Asked what specifically is inaccurate about the NYT story, Sanders evades: "Totally false attack based on an old recycled news story. I'm not gonna sit and go through every single line of a very boring 14,000-word story."
Sanders was asked about Trump's "tone" in attacking Blasey Ford. She didn't address it directly.
Asked if Trump's tax returns are still "under audit," Sanders says, "I know that a number of his taxes are still under audit." Asked if he'll release any, Sanders says, "I'm not aware of any plans to do so."
Asked why Trump called Blasey Ford a very credible and compelling witness and then essentially called her a liar, Sanders doesn't clearly explain, saying Blasey Ford was indeed "compelling" but "you can't make this decision based on emotion. It has to be based on fact."
Asked about Trump calling for death for the Central Park Five (and asserting their guilt even after exoneration), and why he only sometimes believes in due process, Sanders says, "The president actually encouraged the Senate to hear Dr. Ford's testimony." She is not helpful.
2018: the president was accused of criminal fraud on the front page of the New York Times and this has been the subject of a couple of passing questions at the White House briefing.
Sanders keeps saying the same thing when asked about Trump's mockery of Blasey Ford: "He was stating facts...simply pointed out the facts of the matter."
Asked if indeed she has no problem at all with Trump's performance last night, Sanders says, "I don't have a problem stating facts, no. I know that's something you probably do have a problem with, but I don't."
Sanders won't explain why Trump called Blasey Ford "very credible" and is now mocking her as non-credible. Asked if he still thinks she's credible, Sanders says, "The president believes that Judge Kavanaugh should be confirmed."
A very contemptuous, evasive and unhelpful performance even by Sanders standards.
Sanders notes that Trump has given a "platform" to Bill Clinton's accusers, so "to say that he's never sided with women is just ridiculous."
