EU ministers are due to discuss new funding proposals on migration and security this week - the issues for debate are summarised here: data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/document/S…
2/3 EU interior ministers are also due to discuss the recent proposal for more powers for the EU border agency, Frontex.

1/ Let's take a look at Mr Nelson's support for the rights of @The3Million, shall we? Because the record is...chequered.
2/ He was on a @britishfuture inquiry (with me and others) that recommended unilateral guarantees for @The3Million in December 2016. Details here: eulawanalysis.blogspot.com/2016/12/bargai…

There’s a lot of disinfomation about a #FinalSay Referendum floating about based on variations of these points.

Some of this is very misleading. Corrected version in next tweets 1/
- Ref requires primary legislation, but could be as part of another act (1)
- Only Government can allocate time for act, but amendments to another act could use that Bill’s time. (1)
- Minimum of 147 days to hold a ref (although this is a minimum) (2)

- A ref would require an extension to Article 50, which requires unanimous agreement of EU27
- EU27 have indicated repeatedly that this would be likely to be available.
- That extension would need to be past the EP elections on 23-26 May.

UKGov’s legal advice might be secret, but EU watchers have been discussing this for months.

I agree that EP elections would have to be held and UK MEPs take up their seats. I don’t agree at all that this rules out the A50 extension necessary for a #FinalSay referendum. 1/
In June, the EU Council agreed a decision on the composition of the European Parliament after Brexit. This redistributes the UK seats to the other Member States.

Article 2 of this decision makes specific provision for what happens if the UK is still a Member State at the beginning of the 2019-2024 EP term.

It says that the composition will be the current one, as laid out in the 2013 decision that is still in force. 3/

Here's my (probably futile) attempt to explain
The challenge: Theresa May needs a legally binding reassurance on the Northern Ireland backstop that does not actually change Britain's exit treaty.
The Danes faced this problem in 1992 when they voted down the Maastricht treaty.

With (a little) help from the Brits and some nifty footwork from @piris_jc a creative solution was found.

#Khashoggi Case Thread: I am going to ‘pin’ this post to use it as an ‘Info Thread’ on the #Khashoggi Case. I am in #Turkey. I’ve been following the case closely and with access to sources & experts here. This is a very ‘sensitive’ criminal case due to ‘Diplomatic Booby Traps’!!!
The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

How embarrassing for #Merkel that EU divisions over #migration policies - where some European governments or government ministers prefer to go it alone rather than to find a common EU position - is being played out - in neon-lit glaring headlines - in her own administration 1
#Merkel has always pushed for EU-wide migration solutions (though she took a rather large unilateral decision herself back in 2015 when she opened the doors to over a million asylum-seekers, in defiance of EU regulations) 2
Those regulations stipulate that irregular migrants must be processed in the first EU country they arrive in- but #Merkel argued that no-one was looking after or documenting them (remember the chaos in Greece and Hungary?) 3
