The president has been implicated by an accomplice under oath of federal crimes.
The president is currently under Federal investigation for obstructing a probe into Russian election tampering and his campaign’s role in it.
The president has, in front of cheering crowds, mocked disabled journalists and sexual assault survivors and prisoners of war and parents of dead soldiers and the women who accused him of assault.
The president has held dozens of rallies in which he whips up the crowd bybleading them in a chant to imprison Hillary Clinton for an incident that was thoroughly investigated and found no crime, an investigation which she did not obstruct.
There’s the congressman who bodyslammed a journalist.

and the pardoned Sheriff who ran concentration camps in the desert.

and the children kidnapped from their parents and put in cages.

and the chronically ill living in fear

and the abuse survivors newly endangered

Civility.
Republicans can and will accuse their opponents of every sin for which they themselves provide the cartoonishly evil example, but it isn’t the responsibility of national publications to accept that framework.

it’s just all so draining, which I suppose is why they do it
They gather in angry mobs and call their opponents an angry mob.

they attack free elections and accuse their opponents of attacking free elections.

they call journalists the enemy of the people

and women liars

and Mexicans rapists

and NFL players sons of bitches

Civility.
And unarmed black man is gunned down in his car and they say “good shoot.”

In a store, they say “good shoot.”

in his own apartment, they say “this has really been hard on her.”

On the street, they say the boy was scary. Then they bid on the gun at auction.

Civility.
The nation has been captured by a white nationalist party, driven by every kind of bigotry, that is pushing an agenda of corruption and apartheid, and our 4th estate is still tone-policing the only viable political alternative of three weeks before the election.

Cool.
Republicans don’t care for civility one bit. I offer as proof everything they say and do and the leaders they choose.

What they’re saying when they call for civility isn’t “be civil.”

They’re saying “stop struggling.”
Civility.
I think civility is a wonderful thing, but it’s inappropriate to extend if it provides comfort to empowered people actively orchestrating harm.

I also don’t think that civility is actually what Republicans are asking for.

Civility. newyorker.com/news/news-desk…
This is true.

Which is why it’s important to notice the actual things that people actually do and say.

Different sides may believe the others wrong. But it still possible for only one of them to be wrong and the others right.
