Showing its acute understanding of the economic problems facing Americans, Trump's Council on Economic Advisers just released a report on—I kid you not—"The Opportunity Costs of Socialism."

I'm not going to link to it, because no-one's eyes should have to see this nonsense.
But I am grateful that the President's top economic advisers are spending their time refereeing debates between the Marxists, Leninists and Maoists. They've added immense clarity, where before there was only debate and vision. </sarcasm>
Can you imagine working in the White House and thinking: "I know what this country needs right now: A pointless treatise on socialism. Because if there's one thing a market economy underprovides, it's pointless treatises divining the distinction between communism and socialism."
I can't shake the mental image of Hassett borrowing Philipson's copy of Lenin, only to find it's on Burkhauser's desk, but getting angry at Mulligan for underlining it in pen. I'll admit it makes me chuckle, even as I shake my head in sadness.
The real question is whether this is Trump forcing his economic team to debase themselves, or if they chose to humiliate themselves, perhaps thinking "this will provide the intellectual heft to swing the midterms."
that reference list though... 🔥🔥🔥
And as @kjhealy humorously points out, the CEA also shows itself to be woefully underqualified to referee Marxist debates.
But it's not funny, it's sad. For several generations, the CEA harnessed the best and brightest to serve their country, ensuring White House policy was informed by modern economic thinking.

It's sad to see @WhiteHouseCEA debase that tradition, spending their time on this dreck.
An answer: On a press call earlier today @WhiteHouseCEA chair Kevin Hassett says the idea for their extremely on point dive into Marxism, Leninism and Maoism came from the CEA, not their political masters.

...and that might be the most depressing thing you read all day.
