Fair question. This person who made these statements has been reported to be a friend of Jason Kenney. I listened to the recording of the comments. There was no room for interpretation, he clearly told a large room of people that the rainbow flag is the same as the swastika.
LGTBQ people targeted, tortured, and murdered by the Nazis. To say that our struggle for the basic right to live our lives free of oppression somehow makes us the same as Nazis is bizarre. Considering the context, I believe that it should be considered hate speech.
If you are a UCP member, I sure hope you are working to change things right away! The doors to all kinds of hateful beliefs seem to be open at the moment. I hope you will be willing to disavow the party as well, if this continues any longer. If not, you risk owning these things.
