1. Since when is the President, a non-drinker, so concerned about American winemakers? This rando talking point could be coming from anywhere, but here's one possible source.
2. Back in April an Oregon winery was proud to announce that one of its wines was featured at the WH state dinner with Emmanuel Macron. I and may of my Oregon friends were happy for them. But why that winery? I wondered.
3. Thanks to the good folks at opensecrets.org, it only took a second to discover that the owners of that Oregon winery had donated $100,000 to a pro-Trump PAC in 2016. 
4. The winery owners are long-time Republican donors as well, having given $1 million to the @gop in 2012 alone, including $5000 to the precociously Trumpy Michelle Bachman of Minnesota. archive.naplesnews.com/news/state/nap…
5. This is all just circumstantial evidence of course. There might be nothing fishy going on here, apart from Trump's more generalized, Vichy approach to France this morning.
6. This thread is not intended as a criticism of the Oregon wine industry more generally. I'm a big fan (and not infrequent consumer) of the many excellent wines produced in my state. The only Oregon wine I don't drink is Domaine Serene, mostly because I can't afford it.
