Trump is blaming the Camp Fire on forest mismanagement in order to make the case for bringing widespread clear cutting back to California forests. It's straight up disaster capitalism à la @NaomiAKlein.
Trump has suggested both on Twitter and in a cabinet meeting last month that he's inclined to cut fed'l funding for firefighting in CA and diverting it into opening up forests to logging. Zinke made the case in August. And it's in the proposed 2019 budget. huffingtonpost.com/entry/ryan-zin…
Neither the Camp Fire nor the Woolsey Fire are even forest fires. They're fires along the "wildland-urban interface," which are especially dangerous, complicated and costly to fight, and which hasten the fires' spread. Last yr's wine country fires were on grasslands, not forests.
Fires are becoming bigger and more frequent because of climate change. But even if you're going to ignore the larger context and point to a proximate cause, then it's development, not "forest management." Mike Davis made the case for letting Malibu burn decades ago. He was right.
