"(Love) does not take into account a wrong suffered." 1 Corinthians 13:5c

/
/ Charitable, unconditional love which is commanded by God for the believer to exemplify "does not take into account a wrong suffered (οὐ λογίζομαι - ou logizomai). "ou" is a negative that is an absolute categorical rejection of a thing.
/ "logizomai" is a derivative of the word logos which is where we get our english word "logic". The implication of logos is that is that there is a "reckoning of thoughts" that ultimately become words. Within the context of the verse it is a "reckoning of wrongs (kakos).
/ This particular word is an accounting term. In other words, the believer is to not write into the ledger of their mind and heart the offenses of those who have wounded us. We are to keep no record of their sin debt.

Why? Because bitterness will set in and pollute our souls.
/ In essence, we are to strike their wrongs from the ledger regardless if they have repented or not. The Greek word "kakos" (wrong) is a strong term. It is used in regards to an offender causing insidious, baneful harm or ruin to us.
/ Unconditional forgiveness to our offenders and our enemies not only protects us from the poison of bitterness which will effect our usefulness, but will lead us to love our enemies. We cannot love our enemies with bitterness in our hearts.
/ It is the kindness of God that leads to repentance (Romans 2:4) Nowhere is it more evident of God's power than for a person who has been wronged to forgive their offender. That is probably the greatest evidence of Christ in our lives and unbelievers see it.
/8 I'd like to challenge you guys this holiday season to love those who will/who have wounded you. We will see family that has hurt us & they will do their best to either offend us or make us feel uncomfortable. Strike their wrongs from the ledger so that they see Christ in you.
