Another leading indicator of global trends. A while ago we were contemplating the
"End of History" thinking liberal individual based value system had emerged as the standard of governance. Now under attack even in its birthing grounds.
It may be the End of something else...
2/ Another book "Why Democracies Perish" might become relevant again.

Years ago, in 1984, it was fashionable to observe, w a bit of condensation, that 'No ol' boy Orwell, you missed it...No Big Brother here...".
3/ I recall reading the articles that, almost w a release of anxiety proclaimed we didn’t go down that road after all...Thinking, oddly, that the year is what was important and not the trends. So maybe it is more "1984" now than it was then.
4/ But more accurately, the 1984 now, is predicated firmly on the "1984" that was then. Only a few had the depth of insight to understand and see it.
But now it has come to a fullness of its own, & presents both opportunities as well as threats. Which wins Is unknown as of yet
5/ And now, again, we are in a battle to see if government by, for, and of the people can endure even this less violent but no less virulent attack on the core notions and values of liberty and freedom.
6/ This Chinese initiative seems to indicate one answer. But is it really all that different in effect, if not in fact, to our now ubiquitous Credit Score? Increasingly everything we do & may want to do, from jobs, housing, and even daily transactions is governed by this metric.
7/ The globe is being realigned. And the structures of power will be difficult to resist in a world that has been foundationally rearranged by technology.
As Lincoln said "As our times are new, we must think anew". If we do we might disenthrall ourselves & get through this time.
