New volume, here’s something to get off my chest and quickly move on from:

I cannot fucking stand Kelley Jones’ style.
*knocks on @doomquasar’s door* is this overwatch?
Oh shit, it’s Overwatch fan fiction
Jean Paul Valley finds a secret rocket-powered train-car in the cave and just assumes Harold A) built it for him B) is done with it, takes it out for a joyride in Gotham’s subways and the first thing he does is nearly gets in a head-on collision with a train.
Also, Robin discovers a brick wall across his secret entrance to the cave so I guess Jean Paul methodically laid each brick himself in yet another one of his subliminal fugue states.
Jean Paul’s mind has been warped from birth with subliminal fighting techniques, engineering principles, and a trigger for visions of a long-dead saint who tells him to stop sinning and go kill more criminals WHY ISN’T HE IN SANCTUARY
The answer to this right now is “because he’s in space, where he’s found a system of planets who somehow worship him as a dark god” which is probably not what anybody involved in KnightQuest could have predicted.
I realized I have yet to talk about Harold in any of these threads.
Did you know Batman once rescued a "mute hunchback" from the Penguin, who had enslaved his brilliant engineering mind to build gadgets? And then instead of setting him up with, like, a life of agency and a Wayne Enterprises job, he set him up in the Batcave making gadgets?
And this was like... a "happy solution" for everyone involved, except Alfred, who disliked Harold because I guess he had slovenly habits?

This wasn't even a thing that happened in the '60s or '70s or '80s, it was literally 1990.
Everytime Harold's been used since the '90s it's as a weird footnote that does nothing to address the ableism of His Entire Deal. It's super cringe.
Batman: Yes, boy, join me on my dangerous, illegal crusade
Batman: But definitely no driving until you get your license
Actually, the plot point is that Tim gets his license early under a provision for responsible children with disabled parents who pass the drivers test, so that they can aid their parents in getting around, is a remarkably progressive policy for Gotham City.
When they send the wrong bimbo
I haven’t been doing much in this thread lately because I find the Az-Bats stuff mostly boring but holy crap this is the first Post-Animated Series revamp appearance of Mr. Freeze!

And it’s fucking Azrael story!
Bruce gonna get back from hiatus like Dude what HAPPENED TO YOU
One of my favorite bits of Gotham Central is when Bullock tells Montoya she could have told him she was gay, she could have trusted him; and she says “No, Harv, no I fucking couldn’t.”
It goes to show that you absolutely can retcon a character’s sexuality even if they’ve never “shown” it before — and it can even give heft and bite to lazy writing, like Bullock’s casual misogyny here.
“Well I heard he’s wearing sunglassses and now he’s an Energy Batman” “And I heard he’s a teenage clone of Batman with attitude” “And I heard he built himself a flying suit with a sledge hammer”
More like Saint Dumbass, amirite 😏
Jean Paul’s on a whole “my lusting for Catwoman is confusing and shameful” kick like it’s part of how his religious programming has fucked him up, but he should feel bad cause this shit is creepy
Guh-ROSS
Love these INKS though, wow
