My great uncle Ted DuBois, who died two years ago at 97, will be buried today with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. He served in the South Pacific in World War II and went on to command missile defense for the West Coast as a Brigadier General. He embodied service.
My great grandfather, Colonel John McDonald, was running ROTC at U of Illinois when he met a dashing young cadet named Ted. Impressed, he introduced him to his daughter. And that’s how Ted became Uncle Ted.
My great granddad was buried here in 1982, a year after I was born. Now his son-in-law will join him for eternal rest in the same hallowed ground.
