One thing I am interested in seeing today is the explination for Flynn’s prosecution. The right wing intelligentsia claims it was a malicious prosecution but Flynn apologized for what he did. I doubt we leave today with the idea that Mueller acted improperly in this case. 1/
That said if you look at this prosecution at a distance it’s extremely frustrating that Trump’s people are held to a standard that Obama’s never were. Hillary and her people were given immunity before questioning. It’s a total double standard. 2/
If I were McCabe or Strzok this new standard would be unnerving. IMO they wanted to use the “lying to investigators” to damage Trump but I don’t believe they ever intended to take it this far. This is a dangerous precedent for the protected class. 3/
Here we have the NSA while in office interviewed by the FBI and his lies are being prosecuted. I’m not sure but I can’t think of a precedent for it. That said it hopefully ends Rice/Clinton chapter in American history where government official feel safe to lie with impunity. 4/
I do realize there still remains a partisan gap. Republicans get prosecuted but Democrats don’t. That’s where what I have referred to as Phase 2 comes in. Will Trump fully restore the rule of law by prosecuting clear criminality from the last admin? 5/
Some argue the idea that new admins prosecute the crimes of past admins is a bad precedent. That it equals political revenge. No it equals the establishment and ruling class protecting itself and creating what @Peoples_Pundit calls a multi-tiered justice system. 6/
Breaking the law is breaking the law. Period. And if the statute of limitations hasn’t expired and the evidence calls for prosecution then you should be prosecuted. If the ruling class doesn’t like that, they should stop breaking the law. 7/
Today is the beginning of the end of Mueller’s investigation. As that chapter closes a new one potentially opens. If @GenFlynn taking responsibility leads to others being held to a common legal standard then it will be another amazing sacrifice he made for love of country. End/
