It’s #HumanRightsDay today & our liberties have never been more threatened.

Women, African Americans, Muslims, Latinos, immigrants, LGBTQ people are all under historic stress.

Today we’re focusing on the abuse faced by LGBQT migrants, because it’s horrific. #LGBTQImmigration
LGBTQ migrants face unique horrors: They’re not only escaping violence in their home countries (partners killed, family targeted, coercion into sex work, etc) but they continue to be targeted on the route to the US by other migrants & Mexican authorities.

We saw this first-hand.
We walked w/trans women around the complex where migrants were housed in Mexico City.

Men yelled at them, catcalled, whistled.

We rented buses to get them to Tijuana safely & quickly.

They were pulled over by Mexican authorities & detained for hours.
In Tijuana, neighbors hurled abuse b/c they knew there were LGBTQ people staying in their area.

This was on top of the anti-Central American racism by Mexican nationalists against all migrants.

The streets weren’t safe, the cops were dangerous, & the US had closed its door.
The administration’s policies closing off asylum to those entering outside ports of entry like Tijuana while at the same time clogging those ports of entry created a humanitarian crisis for LGBTQ migrants.

If there’s one thing to take away, it’s that: The crisis is manufactured.
We know such policies hurt vulnerable migrants the most: women, children, & LGBTQ people.

That’s why we sued the administration to stop the practice of discriminating against asylum-seekers based on how they entered the country.

We know LGBTQ migrants are particularly endangered in Tijuana & need legal help, medication, housing, security, & more.

That’s why we raised thousands of dollars to provide shelter & safety for dozens of LGBTQ migrants & put lawyers on the ground in TJ. raicestexas.org/donate/lgbtq-s…
We’re still there ensuring everyone is prepared for the fair hearing they’re entitled to by law to seek safety in our country. We’re going to continue to be there for as long as it takes to get the group across.
We want to thank partners like @HRC for bringing attention to their plight and @AlOtroLado_Org & Santa Fe Dreamers Project for helping w/their cases.

We’re proud to have partners in this search for safety for a group that’s gone through hell & keeps fighting.

Help us help them.
