There’s a leap in this @neal_katyal argument I’m not following. The “card [Trump] has left to play” is “resign and avoid a criminal trial”? Why… would that avoid a criminal trial? Is the premise that prosecutors would offer this as some kind of explicit deal?
@neal_katyal If the premise is that this permits Pence to pardon him, why would Trump need to step down? He can wait until his next colonoscopy & Pence can do it while he’s temporarily wielding the powers of the presidency.
If, for whatever reason, we assume the colonoscopy pardon isn’t an option, he still only has reason to jump when the optics get so bad that the risk of Pence balking at a pardon outweighs the benefit of being the president.
