Taking back control can’t put more police on the street.
Brexit means Brexit can’t solve mental health.
Leave means Leave can’t build social housing.

No matter how you slice it, Brexit comes back to the economy. On that measure, it’s a disaster.

The farce, involving 79 lorries, is meant to simulate no deal Brexit congestion of 10,000.

1/ #Brexit & #PeoplesVoteMarch - have we wasted 926 days debating the wrong things?
2/ over the last 2 1/2 years I have spoken to many Leave voters across the UK while campaigning for EU #citizensrights. Global Britain, free trade deals, sovereignty , Canada+++, and migration, were mentioned at first but once dug deeper the concerns changed quickly.

#brexit seems to be all about feeling over fact and this is especially true of the ReesMogg ERG faction of the Tory right.
I never bought the line that #brexit is about Democracy because most of the Tory right had zero enthusiasm for improving democracy in the UK few of them care about unelected house of lords the unfair FPTP electoral system or transparency on the contrary
Most of the Tory right are interested only in constitutional changes that suit them and if anything strive to be as little democratically accountable as possible.

1. The now infamous Copyright Directive is a solid example of why we should leave the EU. Not of itself as some suggest but it gives us an insight into how the rest of the EU functions. (#Brexit thread)
2. The legislation, like most EU law is the product of corporate lobbying but when it comes out the other side we get an appalling piece of law - a sledge hammer to miss the nut - one which will place substantial costs on content producers. Only the biggies can afford to comply.
3. So like nearly all pieces of technical EU legislation it is as much designed to shaft the competition as much as it is about taking back control of the internet. We've seen this all before with meat producers and electronics firms.

1) Thread - All Brexits are bad and what we voted for
It's often said by brexiters that "it's not all about economics"
However, the *actual* Leave campaign was almost wholly about economic arguments

With the leak of this 2-8% report those arguments are now trashed
2) We seem to have forgotten this however economics played a huge part in the Vote Leave campaign, making up over 2/3rds of the primary arguements. The clear message was we would at the least be no worse off and at best much better off. 4 of the 6 below state this clearly
3) & the fact is voters believed we would be no worse off. People prioritized immigration certainly, but against a backdrop of there being no consequences from Brexit - few are prepared to actually pay for ending FoM

1. Worst national leadership in my lifetime forcing through the most damaging, misguided & missold policy I can remember. Ideology & vested self interest replace statesmanship, soundbites replace sound judgement & autocracy subverts democracy.

2. A flawed Leave campaign based on lies, deceit, disingenuity & over simplification & a #Remain one fought w/o any positivity from the Govt & no real commitment from Labour, whose leader was virtually AWOL, did no justice to #Brexit complexity & betrayed our democratic process.
3. A mere 37% of voters/26.5% of the Ppl voted leave in a legally Non-Binding test of public opinion which has been corrupted, on the basis of an illegitimate political promise & interpreted as being the irrefutable Will of the Ppl.
The 1st is insufficient to claim the latter!

So here's my last #Brexit thread of the year.

If you saw Theresa May's message today you'll see that all she has is bland platitudes. She's totally disconnected and out of her depth. She doesn't understand Brexit or the sentiment behind it & has no idea what direction to take.
This should come as no surprise. She is attempting to deliver something that cannot possibly satisfy everyone and will deliver little that was promised. She cannot have her Florence deal and at some point she has to come clean. This, though, is entirely the fault of Vote Leave.
Vote Leave hijacked Brexit, telling lies when there was no need. The Tory right have since made it an economic proposition based on a feeble command of the issues making bogus claims which do not stand, drawing red lines that will have to be crossed.
