There is a group in Arizona (@colibricenter) that identifies remains & notifies their families if they can.

There's a pauper's grave in Holtsville, CA for the unidentified dead marked with bricks bearing one of three names. John Doe. Jane Doe. Baby Doe. psmag.com/news/field-not…
I've been to the Holtsville cemetery a few times. It's very quiet and mournful and I'm glad they are given some semblance of dignity in death, even unidentified as they are. But not dying in the desert would have been better still.
