Fact is tho, manga is comics. Manga sold in the US are comic sales. Manga sales are part of the resurgence of comics as an industry and a medium in North America, and were part of its origin. (Primarily thanks to TokyoPop, which is an entirely different discussion.)
It's a thing comics has in common with games; both their NA markets floundered at some point, and foudn their footing again with the aid of Japanese imports.
