Pompeo’s Cairo speech was la-la land fantasy. Here’s the terrible stuff we’ve done since Trump took office to destabilize the Middle East (it’s a long list so bear with me for a few tweets).

1. help kill thousands of civilians in Yemen
2. abandon Egyptian democracy movement...
3. sell out the Kurds in Syria without any plan for their safety
4. push Qatar into Iran’s orbit
5. weaken Lebanon by allowing Saudis to kidnap Prime Minister
6. empower Iranian hardliners by pulling out of nuclear agreement
7. let Saudis get away with chopping up a journalist under American protection
8. exacerbate regional refugee crisis by (a) cutting off funds for Palestinian refugee crisis, and (b) not letting any refugees enter America
9. worsen humanitarian crisis in Gaza and West Bank by cutting off economic development funds
10. walk away from Syria peace talks, leading Russia, Iran, and Turkey to start new process w/o U.S.
11. regularly undermine UN peacekeeping, which has critical operations in the region
12. fail to appoint key Ambassadors for most of 2017 and 2018 as region spiraled out of control

I could go on.

Pompeo has a tough job, but his efforts to rewrite the last two years of American foreign policy in the Middle East are not credible.
