Exciting news: The Nigerian Prisons Service in collaboration with the Presidency is launching Nigeria’s National Prisons Information Management System (PIMS). Official launch is on Friday January 16, 2019. First-of-its-kind-in-Nigeria prisons information database, linked to NIMC.

“As a part of the @MBuhari government’s continued commitment to digitise data collection & management and to develop policies informed by credible data, the prisons’ records management systems have been updated and replaced by the Prisons Information Management System (PIMS).”

“The old systems which consist primarily of hard copy registers & limited Excel-based registers, lacked uniformity across the 244 prisons in Nigeria. [Their] analogue nature also made it difficult for officials to transfer required info to relevant units of NPS within good time.”

“PIMS is expected to strategically interact with other national identity Mgt. databases. Such databases include the national crime database being developed under the oversight of the Presidential Stakeholders Cttee on Prison Reform & Decongestion which was inaugurated Oct 2017.”

“The Nigerian Prisons Service(NPS) has deployed the Prisons Information Management System(PIMS) to 86 locations across 16 States(NPS national HQ, 8 zonal commands, 16 selected State commands [across the geopolitical zones], & roughly 2 prisons in each of the 16 selected States).”

Nigeria is replacing its old prisons’ records systems (mostly hard copy registers) with a digital Prisons Information Management System (PIMS).

PIMS contains modules for the following:

Identity Management
Case Mgt
Health Mgt
Risk Mgt
Legal Clearing House
Statistics & Reporting
