I'm going to spell out the logic of the current Brexit impasse. Thesis i) No form of Brexit can pass through Parliament that wil satisfy those who voted for it; therefore the moral force of the 2016 referendum is spent...
Thesis ii ) The next phase in Parliament, if it delivers a significantly softer Brexit, will split the Tories and rely on SNP/PC/LD and rebel Labour votes. This cannot happen unless May accepts Customs Union.
Thesis iii) @BrandonLewis insistence "No Customs Union" means no deal. If this changes, the way is open to a deal similar to the one Labour has always proposed. But EU may not accept it. Renegotiation means A50 has to be suspended...
Thesis iv) All solutions lead in the direction of change of government - EU needs a Govt it can trust and which believes in the deal. This ain't it...
Thesis v) with it without an election, the difference between all possible deals and the Brexit illusion mean the result would have to be ratified in a referendum. ENDS
