Airbus chief exec attacks Brexit “disgrace” - no Deal will divert investment and make no mistake other countries want to build wings for aircraft. “Airbus not dependent on UK”...

It did warn about this months ago.
In Whitehall, expecting cascade of these types of announcements hearing now of active moves in EU capitals to cultivate various multinationals to activate No Deal relocation plans for HQs/ manufacturing from UK for those that need to maintain EU single market privileges
“Please don’t listen to Brexiters madness ...they’re wrong”.
“UK aerospace at precipice, No Deal Brexit & we at Airbus will have to make potentially v harmful decisions for UK”

Home Secretary Sajid Javid tells Marr “we are planning to leave on March 29th” under existing Brexit legislation, which was not quite we will leave on that date.
Also refers to loss of SIS2 EU system used to check all entrants to UK with passport swipe against database... to use inferior Interpol sys in no Deal, calls it a change of capability, unwilling to actually say the words that this is less, worse or bad, says UK will remain safe

However, because of the ECJ red line this is not certain even in under PM’s deal...

currently X-trail only made in Japan, & plan announced after Govt letter was here too..

As result of EU-Japan FTA which came in to force Thurs, those Xtrails will enter EU market directly from Japan with 0 tariff.

Vs risk of 10% tariff under WTO/ No Deal Brexit from Sunderland
Not saying only factor - and it will be interesting to see if production is retained in Japan or moved elsewhere in EU, but entire existence of Sunderland plant in 1980s was as a way to get Nissan Bluebird into European markets tariff free from within the then EEC....

EU Council draft of offer of visa free travel to British citizens after Brexit (if reciprocated to all EU27 citizens) - they have added (ie Spain has insisted) a footnote “Gibraltar is a colony of the British crown” and controversy over sovereignty, solution yet to be reached
... so that has been added to the Commission draft.

Number 10: “Gibraltar is not a colony it is completely unacceptable to describe it in that way”.

but this is an EU27 internal position over which the UK no longer has any type of veto.
Not just a footnote - page 3 asserts that “Gibraltar is not part of the UK” and so its citizens will not be part of the visa waiver offered to visiting Brits. Again this is an addition to Commission draft by EU Council (ie Spanish diplomats)

. @GuillaumeVdLoo tells us 'copying and pasting' existing EU FTA is not feasible. There are legal and technical issues regarding tariff rate quotes, political challenges in negotiation etc. Exchange of letters is more practical but has technical issues. #UKTrade
.@StevenBlockmans agrees that an exchange of letters is the preferred option. This requires EU cooperation and is a 'damage limitation' exercise for the UK & EU. Ratification is lengthy. It's 'wishful thinking' to scrap all references to the EU in trade agreements. #UKTrade
