Government takes 2% of your wealth every year to fund health care, green energy, etc.: Damn it, that's COMMUNISM!!

Asset manager takes 2% of your wealth every year to invest your money in a portfolio that underperforms the index: Well that's just good ol' productive CAPTITALISM!
Various People: "It's different because with the asset manager you CHOSE to give him all your money, whereas with the tax the leader was democratically elected to take your money"

Well, true, true...
Oh man, "CAPTITALISM" was a typo but it makes the original tweet so much better

I got into a Twitter argument with an immigration restrictionist, and he just kept making one jaw-droppingly false assertion after another.

These guys never stop coming. It's a constant fire-hose of Gish Galloping, false claims, bad data, even worse anecdote, repetition of previously debunked assertions, whataboutism, misdirection, accusation, etc. etc.
But they're gonna lose.

Howdy, folks! Today's @bopinion post is about the question of whether high income taxes on very high incomes would hurt entrepreneurship, innovation, and startups.

Evidence suggests that higher taxes won't do much to discourage rich people from working, or to reduce investment.
But what about innovation?

Basic research could be funded by higher taxes (assuming they're sufficiently broad-based).

Transnational organized crime is estimated to be an industry on the scale of 7-10% of the annual global economy, which in 2017 was about $80 Trillion.

So, that means something like $4-8 Trillion a year goes into the pockets of organized crime.
And what do those criminal organizations and entities do with that money? Two things.

a) Spend some of it
b) Hoard most of it

Dems have ruined dating, just like they ruined college, health care, and jobs.
😡😡😡 My kids are of age now for all of those, and none of it is what we wanted for them. NONE of it. Jobs will improve, but too late for our plans - time passed, can't get it back, or the life we had
(2) Life in America will improve, but for many of us whose kids grew up under Obama regime... the hopes and dreams we had for them were SHATTERED. Can't get a do-over. Kids grow up. Time gone. Bitterness does no good, so I have to focus on the future, but - closure (next)
(3) When something bad happens, best to understand the parts that were beyond our control, and the parts that we can do something about. Winners analyze, develop strategy, take responsibility for what they can - fight. Government policies and corruption MATTER. (next)

In the midst of the tests and various medical consultations, it occurred to me that my life had stopped. My symptoms limited my movements and where I could go. So, I couldn't plan and I couldn't project forward.
Things like traveling or dating went out of the window. I was stuck on finding a solution to my health challenge. My tests are still ongoing. I'm still seeing doctors, but we think we now know what's wrong. And so, I am hopeful.

Give universal basic income and watch the GDP go through the roof. Everybody who does business is doing more business. Demand goes up. Supply goes up. Rising tide lifts all boats.
The rightwing in this country has spent decades chasing cars on the principle that it plays well, and right now a lot of what is happening is that the generations that grew up watching them are now actually catching the cars.

Maybe it takes us a generation of saying "UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME NOW" for now to get here. Maybe it takes us a hundred years. Maybe it takes us a revolution. Maybe it takes a cataclysm and a new beginning.

Say it anyway. Make a robust social safety nest look like a compromise.
