Hard, cold fact: There is no way to finance the crazy socialist dreams of Democrats without taxing the hell out of the middle class and the people who create jobs for it. Any "relief" they pretend to offer is just a trick to set you up for when they grab your wallet later.
One reason leftists are so obsessed with statistics about how much of national or global wealth is held by a tiny group of super-rich people is they want to blind voters to the fact that taxing the middle class is the only way to get the money needed for socialist programs.
They labor to create this image of a few outrageously, unreasonably rich people sitting on vaults packed with the world's looted treasure to trick the public into believing huge socialist schemes can be financed by pinching a few gold coins from plutocrats who won't miss them.
This illusion also reinforces the ideas that rich people have no inherent right to their property - they "stole" it from the deserving poor! - and that billionaires hoard their wealth or spend it on frivolous indulgences instead of investing it wisely, as the State would do.
The notion that our bumbling, corrupt mega-government can invest money more wisely than billionaires, or average people spending the money they earn through hard work, is so absurd that it's a wonder even Democrat voters don't roar with laughter when they hear it.
The super-government that just spent weeks whining about a shutdown while it furloughed a vast army of non-essential workers? Yeah, that's the same government socialists think can administer health care more efficiently than doctors and private industry.
But no, there is no way to finance these massive schemes without grabbing a huge amount of money from the middle class. You can tax corporations and the rich at such high rates that free enterprise collapses and you still won't get enough to run socialist America for a month.
Also, the middle class is a huge reservoir of OBEDIENCE, a limited resource that follows the law of diminishing returns just like any other. Socialism doesn't work unless people OBEY their masters. Disobedience, and eventually even dissent, cannot be tolerated.
A large and prosperous middle class that can disobey their socialist rulers, or even muster the political will to vote them out of office, is intolerable. The middle class must be subdued and made obedient by taking away its money and hooking it on government programs.
Taking control of health care is an important step in this direction because people tend to obey those who can threaten their physical survival. Disobedience is reduced once the State controls medicine and can respond to all political threats by threatening to defund it.
If you think Shutdown Theater is annoying, wait until your socialist rulers can respond to every single demand for fiscal discipline, every demand to fund something they dislike like border security, by threatening to shut down medicine instead of bloated government agencies.
The Left's dreams of absolute centralized power are completely incompatible with a wealthy, politically independent middle class that views free market commerce as vital to its prosperity. Investors, entrepreneurs, and consumers are less obedient than dependents.
The really dangerous thing - the truth young people particularly need to understand - is that obedience IS a resource like any other. Increasingly severe efforts are required to squeeze more obedience from the public as that resource is drained.
It's like a well that begins to run dry, so the well is dug deeper and with greater violence in a desperate bid to get to the last few drops. The first demands for obedience seem relatively reasonable and impose a fairly light burden on most of the public.
But the resulting wealth harvested from the nation by socialists is never enough to pay for their dreams. They must demand ever more obedience, with increasingly harsh penalties for resistance, from more and more people to keep the collectivist engine running.
Look at how the burdens and penalties for Obamacare were light at first, even waved aside with a flick of King Obama's hand, but quickly grew severe and oppressive. Remember how he started by claiming it would be so great people would abandon private insurance voluntarily for it.
There is no more talk of "voluntary" anything with Obamacare, no more waived penalties, no choices, no options, no going back. You can't change your mind if you realize it was a terrible mistake. You must obey, and now even greater obedience is demanded for socialized medicine.
There won't be any going back from socialized medicine. The Dems won't be honest with you about this, but it's "one man, one vote, one time," just like a banana republic. You can't change your mind and go back to free markets when "Medicare for All" turns out to be a disaster.
Socialized medicine is not an intriguing idea we can experiment with, then try something else if it doesn't work out. You will never be able to recover the freedom you lose, not without violence. There won't even be a suggestion box - court media won't care about your pain.
That's why socialism is the DEFEAT of the middle class, perhaps final and irrevocable, no matter how fervently today's aspiring socialists lie about loving the middle class and wanting to nourish it. The Left LOATHES the middle class and occasionally blurts out its hatred.
When they talk about a "middle class," what they really mean is a vast, comfortable, tractable lower class deprived of control over their own lives, stripped of meaningful ability to control the State through its votes, robbed of the money it would need to disobey. /end
