Good brief explainer of how public and private insurance exist together in Canada and elsewhere:
Three true things: 1) The Sanders plan is intended to eliminate private insurance or close - leave no gaps that private has to fill in Canada (vision, dental, drugs); 2) This kind of plan would ban people from using private insurance as their primary insurer - big, big change;
3) Various countries do all this differently, and “Medicare for all” could mean a variety of different public-private mixes.
