URGENT: This is ridiculous, says every state TV employee.
Like, literally, they have detailed instructions from their Kremlin minders on what to cover, from which angles, which names are blacklisted from the air etc etc.
Heads of all major Russian media attend weekly meetings with members of the Kremlin admin to receive their instructions for the next week. This tradition predates Putin: @aavst says it was introduced in 1996 by Anatoly Chubais, then head of Yelstin admin yeltsinmedia.com/interviews/ven…

You know what freaks out most Russians about American politics? The sheer anti-intellectualism of the public discourse. Not only people don't know the basics of other cultures, but they aren't even aware of their ignorance and actually *refuse* to learn. That's unimaginable here.
Case in point: this tweet is still up:
Ridiculing American ignorance is a common TV trope. There is a whole genre of state-sponsored trolling where "prankers" with an impressive phone book call a U.S. senator and inquire them about non-existent countries and U.S. policy towards them, engaging in absurd dialogues.

56 years ago today the Soviet authorities brutally crushed a rally in Novocherkassk, a southern Russian town. Locomotive factory workers protested against food price hikes, increased production quotas and the general worsening of living conditions. 1/7
Their signs said: "[Give us] Bread, butter, bigger wages!" The protest was sparked by a careless remark by the factory's director: "If you can't afford meat, eat liver pies." A crowd of workers was machine-gunned down by the army and KGB, 26 were killed and 87 wounded. 2/7
The survivors, and even random people who just happened to be nearby, were quickly arrested, 7 were immediately executed and 105 shipped off to labor camps, convicted to 10 to 15 years each for "conspiring to overthrow the Soviet government." 3/7

Benjamin Netanyahu was in Moscow today where he walked alongside Putin in the "Immortal Regiment", a march to honor the fallen in the Great Patriotic War. Normally people carry portraits of their relatives or others who fought in the war. Bibi was handed this one:
His name is Volfas Wilensky, a Lithuanian Jew. He fought bravely throughout the entire war and was decorated with the highest distinction in the USSR, the Hero of the Soviet Union, awarded for the most distinguished feats of heroism in the service of the Union, in war or peace.
Wilensky retired from the Soviet army in 1972 — and spent the next decade as a refusenik. His children repatriated to Israel, but he wasn't allowed to join them until 1983. He was stripped of all his medals and awards and his name was scrubbed from the registry of Heroes of USSR.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A Georgia man pleaded guilty today to fraudulently discharging over $200,000 in student loan debt.

According to court documents, Corey Cadet Dukes, 39, of Jonesboro, and formerly of Alexandria, was an employee of the U.S. Department of State from 2013-2017.
Simultaneously, Dukes was also a full-time supervisor for a security company providing protection to a federal building in Washington, D.C. Nevertheless, Dukes applied through the Department of Education for a Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) discharge of over $200,000...
