Remember yesterday's "Bribes for Brexit" scandal, in which Theresa May tried to buy Labour votes for her deal in exchange for £1.6 billion in funding for poorer areas? Now they won't even publish which towns would get the money...

Presumably the "logic" is that, if the money isn't specifically seen in advance to be going to Area X, then the MP of Area X can vote for TM's frankendeal without nakedly being bribed. Rubbish logic, of course, like all things Brexit-related, but I imagine that's the sequence.
Oh, and just as a refresher: the same areas that would be getting the £1.6 billion currently benefit from over £10 billion in EU regional development funding. So it's not a generous ploy by our benevolent Government, but a massive punch in the face disguised as something else.
Like saying "I'll give you this shiny 50p. A *Brexit* 50p, no less! All you have to do is abandon the idea of the £5 which you're no longer entitled to once we leave the EU."

You know the service sector, the one that makes up 80% of our economy. The one that hardly gets mentioned in Brexit discussions. Do you know WHY it never gets brought up? Because it's so politically toxic, it would be the equivalent of deliberately urinating on an electric fence.
Yes, that's right. In the event of a no-deal Brexit, *nothing* stays the same for UK firms exporting services to the EU/EEA and EFTA countries. Good luck with that!

So, like He Who Shall Not Be Named, MPs shy away from mentioning the service sector, the Voldemort of Brexit. Doesn't mean that elephant of a problem isn't there. Just means it's not getting a fraction of the attention it deserves.

One of the problems with the Brexit debate is that people misunderstand the use of qualifiers around Brexit-related predictions. ("might", "could", "may" etc.). For example "The UK might be subject to 10% tariff on cars." But the doubt isn't around the value of the tariff.
That's 10%. fixed by the EU's WTO schedule. So IF we end up trading with the EU on WTO terms, we WILL (not "might" or "may") be subject to that 10% tariff on cars. The uncertainty is there because, with 23 days left, we still don't know which version of Brexit we're getting.
In other words, we know a lot of things for definite. But we don't know whether those clearly defined things will happen or not. Brexiters get confused between the likelihood of them happening, and the likelihood of them being true - not the same thing!

Neatly illustrates the problem with #r4today - it's not an isolated incident, but a daily occurrence. Somebody will come on (usually pro-Brexit) and lie, lie, lie, until the airwaves crackle. But are they held to account? Are they ever! Facts, unlike opinions, don't have 2 sides.
The height of Nelson's column doesn't change based on your political leanings, neither does the chemical composition of water. The reality around us is filled with things that should be beyond doubt. And decades of stats tell us that US food is less safe - period, end of story.
Thing is, what the politicians don't say (because it's so politically toxic) is that it's the poorest who will suffer most. So long as food *labelling* laws are strong, those with means will be able to avoid US products. Those who can't will be forced to face the consequences.

The increased support for a ‘no deal’ Brexit is the ultimate failure of the Leave movement. It’s the inevitable consequence of the refusal to grasp details, come to terms with complexity & coalesce around a plan. Compromise can be frustrating. So instead they will have a tantrum.
Some Brexiteers advocated sensible solutions. The EFTA/EEA solution gained a lot of traction in the years before the ref. Even Farage had promoted it & countless others. See Farage below from 2011 essentially making the ‘Liberal Leave’ case!

Tldr: the tiller of SS Britannia seems stuck fast, and the No Deal rapids lie dead ahead....is there anything that will blow the ship to the safety of the shore? /1
There are lots of murmurs round Westminster that MPs now want to back the deal - this kind of stuff noted in @Jack_Blanchard_ playbook. /2

I am sick of hearing warnings about how if #Brexit is cancelled it will result in violence and therefore we should go ahead with brexit through fear of racists
A lot of this comes from the right who know their project #Brexit is falling apart but whoever now expects anything better or indeed anything good at all from them. It's when you hear it from left wingers it really angers me
People who are receptive to the idea that immigrants have taken the jobs or depressed wages or pushed up housing costs or stretched public services often have genuine grievances in employment housing or access to health and education which are ignored

Labour and Tory “rebels” have settled into a comfy pattern: if Labour votes against gov’t, rebels behave. When they vote against gov’t, Labour is told to abstain. So, all can claim in the future “I tried to stop hard #Brexit” without actually doing it. No principles and no spine.
And so, on we sleepwalk to a no-deal disaster, dictated by the disaster capitalists on the hard right, who stand to make a killing, because nobody had the guts to take the political risk of voting with the their conscience and explaining to their constituents why they did it.
Effectively both major parties have resigned to the disaster that is coming and are simply jostling to position themselves so that they can bear none of the political responsibility for it. Because, ultimately, MPs are nowhere near the precipice, like migrants or the poorest.
