You know the service sector, the one that makes up 80% of our economy. The one that hardly gets mentioned in Brexit discussions. Do you know WHY it never gets brought up? Because it's so politically toxic, it would be the equivalent of deliberately urinating on an electric fence.
Yes, that's right. In the event of a no-deal Brexit, *nothing* stays the same for UK firms exporting services to the EU/EEA and EFTA countries. Good luck with that!

So, like He Who Shall Not Be Named, MPs shy away from mentioning the service sector, the Voldemort of Brexit. Doesn't mean that elephant of a problem isn't there. Just means it's not getting a fraction of the attention it deserves.

Like a kid supposed to turn in an essay ripping up his two line scribble into little pieces, mixing it with Pedigree Chum, dragging his golden retriever over to the bowl, then telling the teacher "sorry, not my fault - my dog ate my homework".
For the zillionth time: WE are choosing to leave the EU. They are not kicking us out. Even now, with all the hassle and cost we've caused then, they'd like us to stay. So when we ask for impossible unicorns, we can't kick up a strop when they're not delivered.

We have 1,000+ treaties with the EU. Of them, 161 have been deemed essential to cope with a no-deal Brexit. So how many have we actually rolled over? 43! So we're only a quarter of the way through the must-haves, with 22 days left. Doomed. Doomed. Doomed. theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
Not only that, but we're only about 4% of the way toward replicating the current status quo. 4%! It is going to take years and years and years just to get back what we're losing, let alone see the teeniest tiniest squeak of a benefit from Brexit.
So it seems more important that ever to remember there's still an alternative, even at this late hour: we can ALWAYS remain in the EU instead by revoking Article 50.

One critical point about vote for #Brexit is that it marked the first moment when a majority of British people formally asked for something that a majority of their elected representatives did not want to give. It was always destined to lead us here /thread #TuesdayThoughts
Contrary to popular claims, we now know from a dozen + studies that Leavers knew what they were voting for. They had a clear sense about how they wanted to change the settlement; they wanted powers returned from the EU & to slow the pace of immigration
We also know that for large chunks of the Leave electorate this vote -a rejection of the status quo- was anchored in high levels of political distrust, exasperation with an unfair economic settlement & a strong desire to be heard & respected

Sadly, I believe the UK needs to exit the EU without a #brexit deal.

That 30-40% of its population that has post-Imperial delusions need a rude awakening of what the 21st century world is like.

Then, the UK may rejoin the EU in 10-15 years time.
The sad part of this #nodeal #brexit is the people that end up dying unnecessarily because of the Brexiteers pipe dreams.

1) Thread - All Brexits are bad and what we voted for
It's often said by brexiters that "it's not all about economics"
However, the *actual* Leave campaign was almost wholly about economic arguments

With the leak of this 2-8% report those arguments are now trashed
2) We seem to have forgotten this however economics played a huge part in the Vote Leave campaign, making up over 2/3rds of the primary arguements. The clear message was we would at the least be no worse off and at best much better off. 4 of the 6 below state this clearly
3) & the fact is voters believed we would be no worse off. People prioritized immigration certainly, but against a backdrop of there being no consequences from Brexit - few are prepared to actually pay for ending FoM
