Right hand possess and treatment of war criminals; a Thread:

whenever a war is fought, the weakest bear the brunt of it the most; the women and children, specially women. Rape has been an instrument of occupation, intimidation and subjugation through out the history.

Many a times, the Islamophones today, which is basically an extension of the narrative of crusade, pick and choose the aya's of the quran and argue islam allows sex slaves. let s analyse the claim and see what does it really mean, what is the significance of the aya,

and how it provides a real and practical solution to the problem of female captives under occupation. of course Islam gives guidelines to treat male prisoners as well, but that is not the subject of the thread.

various aya's of the quran address the issue of the female captives, unfortunately, many incorrectly assume them to be sex slaves, as practiced in the brothels and public houses. that is not the case at all. the term "right hand possess" doesnt mean sex slaves.

the purpose of the Aya is to integrate the female captives of the war and give them a respectable way to earn their freedom. it is strictly forbidden to force any female captive to into prostitution or into forced sex. what the aya describes is a way to emancipate and integrate

the female captives, give them rights, take care of them as a citizen of the islamic state. like any other islamophopic attack, the sick people use this aya out of context,

surah Nur aya 32-33

And marry the unmarried among you and the righteous among your male slaves and female slaves. If they should be poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty, and Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

But let them who find not [the means for] marriage abstain [from sexual relations] until Allah enriches them from His bounty. And those who seek a contract [for eventual emancipation] from among whom your right hands possess - then make a contract with them if you know there is

there is within them goodness and give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you. And do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, if they desire chastity, to seek [thereby] the temporary interests of worldly life. And if someone should compel them, then indeed,

Allah is [to them], after their compulsion, Forgiving and Merciful.

as it is clearly seen from the aya,, "right hand possess cant be termed an equivalent of sex slave, for the following reasons

1) the aya cearly states they cant be forced into sex, which nullifies the concept of sex slave.

2) it encourages the believers to marry them, once they are married, they are a part of the community, therefore, integrated.

3) those who cant be married, let them abstain from

sexual intercourse, untill Allah makes a way for them.

4) if a captive wishes to enter into a contract(employment, or marriage or anyother) make the contract with them and help the financially from the wealth Allah has given you. which means if they wish to be free

and show promise that they can hold their own, help them financially so they could do so. (doesnt sound like a slave, quite the opposite)

5) do not compel them into forced sex either by you, or by any other. if they are compelled, there is no sin on them, (the one

who compels is clearly violating the order of Allah)

furthermore, there is a hadith that states the following :
If a man teaches his servant girl good manners, educates her in the best manner, then emancipates her and marries her, he will have a double reward

as it is clear from the above aya;s and a sahih hadith, there is no such thing as a sex slave in islam. the idea of the right hand possess is very different entirely, and is well understood by the muslims throughout the history, isis on the other hand is a different matter

and deserves a very different thread. there are plenty of muslim fatwas against them, To the islamophones and far right nut jobs, please read before you cherry pick the aya's of the quran.
