ICE has not provided enough information about their plans to release the families at Karnes. What we know is that our clients should not spend one more day in detention. We demand that ICE release these families today. #Not1MoreDay

The reason ICE would end family detention at Karnes is not because they care about the well being of children. Their plan is to detain and deport more immigrants, faster. This is unacceptable.
Family detention as a practice in the U.S. has to end. Detention of our immigrant communities as a whole has to end. The criminalization of migration and asylum must end.

Remain in Mexico is terrifying.

CBP had a glitch that accidentally changed court dates to a later day.

People didn't find out in time. When they showed up at border, running late, they were denied entry.

This is what the administration wants.

It has zero to do with migrant protection. They want to make it hell to keep court dates & find lawyers. It's much harder on that side of the border.

Even if it's the gov's fault, ICE turns around & says migrants should be deported anyway.
This piece is so disturbing to us.

Migrants have to wake up early, get to the border, wait for hours, get shuttled to court, & wait more.

All for a few minutes in front of a judge in a process that's impossible to understand w/out a lawyer—not guaranteed in immigration court.

We're continuing our series of #StoriesFromKarnes this evening but please take note: the story we are about to share is devastating and the baby is currently very ill while locked up.
The dad has been detained at the Karnes detention center for 21 days with his 1 year old son.

He came here from Honduras after a gang threatened to kill him.

Here's what he shared with us today:
"My one-year-old son has had diarrhea every day since we arrived to Karnes. It has been over 21 days of non-stop diarrhea. It is a serious cause for concern when a one-year old baby has had diarrhea for so long."

Jimin wouldn’t allow himself to be trapped on his shift for any longer than necessary.

“Go, go,” Taehyung hurried, taking Jimin’s apron to let him slip out from behind the counter more quickly. Jimin decided he could get the grounds out from under his nails at home.
This morning had been absolute hell. Two girls ordered seven drinks, Jimin made them all only for them to say they were supposed to be with almond milk.

‘Oh I’m so sorry,’ was he all he had legally been allowed to say at the time, while his mind had far more colorful ideas.
With Jimin officially clocked out, he slumped on the customer side of the now empty service counter, looking to his friend with tired eyes.

“You wanna grab dinner later?”
“I can’t, remem—?
“Ah, right...”

Jimin’s disappointment vanished as Taehyung suddenly smiled to himself.
