Our next presentation is from @Access_Stippen talking about how we combat the user research fallacy and democratise design research.

Kathleen works for @SchibstedGroup and her research team support 34 product teams.
The user research fallacy was coined by @cjforms several years ago.
When Kathleen was a team of one, working with a remote developer team in Poland she found a huge disconnect between the research and the product.
The method she used to collaborate with them was finding a way to access their backlog and add links to research to help bring context to their work.
What about a Team of Many?

There are many products and you can't embedded within just one.

They created a mission for the research team.
Kathleen was explicitly told she wouldn't get a research for every team.

So they began developing training courses.
Method 3, make it easy for people to do research by bringing participants in.
Method 4:

Coach & mentor your product teams.
You still need to know what's going on so make sure you're still doing some research with the teams
Some mistakes.
Using language that was accessible made people engage more with the research process
Successes

Teams are at all different levels

Some have research agendas, they're making the time because they see the value

Other teams not there yet but you can see the maturity developing
Some teams went from talking to 90 people to talking to 1000 people

They trained 20 people in January.

So what's next?
Kathleen slightly changes Caroline's original tweet.

The more we empower people in our organisation the more they'll realise our expertise as researchers!!
