Tarrant's inspiration 👇 (Thread)

1 (of 15) Tarrant’s manifesto (pp 74) is clearly modelled on Anders Breivik's (pp 1,500) – all very tedious and familiar.

2. They’re vomits of personal, narcissistic, paranoid, hysterical efforts of soul-searching.

Psychotic, xenophobic and Islamophobic, they’re autobiographical and ideological mash-ups. Don't look for cryptic codes; they're schizophrenic confusions.

@DMRDynamics @SethN12
3. They take from what politicians and governments, quasi-intellectuals and media have opined openly for decades. My French colleague has long called France ‘the main Western laboratory for Islamophobia’.

Evidence indicates he's onto something. 🇫🇷
4. Tarrant cites Le Pen's loss to Macron as his turning point. Yet Macron is merely a less obvious Islamophobe, which is arguably more dangerous to the quasi/wannabe intellectuals. Do not be lured by suave.

5. The NZ terrorist is lifting from European writers, particularly Renaud Camus' ‘Grand Remplacement’. (Tarrant called his manifesto ‘Great Replacement’.)
Camus’ book talked of the ‘Islamisation of Europe’ and destruction of autochtonous peoples/culture. lemonde.fr/les-decodeurs/…
6. The manifesto(s) also invoke Bat Ye'Or's ‘Eurabia’, Alain Finkielkraut's ‘Identite Malheureuse’, and France’s No 1 xenophobe, and Eric Zemmour — especially ‘The French Suicide’ (on the ‘incompatibility’ of Islam with European values [sic]).
7. Camus’ — Tarrant and Breivik’s ideological source — other works invoking these collective paranoias include ‘Second Occupation’, ‘Remigration’, and ‘Global Replaceism’ concepts. From 2 yrs ago: newyorker.com/magazine/2017/…
8. After Camus learnt his work was the model for Tarrant in Christchurch, NZ, he didn’t like it one bit. leparisien.fr/faits-divers/c…
9. Understand: Camus is pretty much a regurgitation of Nazi SS ‘global Jewish plot’ theories morphed into 21st century 'others' — Muslims/POC/immigrants as ‘acceptable replacements’ for the anti-Semitism of the 20th century.

@splcenter @waitmanb
10. Camus merely uses culture to disguise race in order to avoid legal backlashes of racial hatred, emphasising the need to separate races, or rather — immigrants — to preserve the ‘white race’. lemonde.fr/politique/arti…
11. Le Pen, Laurent Wauquiez (a main French conservative party leader), Geert Wilders, Hirsi Ali, Mark Steyn, Douglas Murray, Sam Harris — all are beloved in France.

Wauquiez touts the racist Zemmour as ‘one of our greatest French intellectuals’ here:
12. The hate group Riposte Laique even claimed Tarrant's mosque attack was ‘more noble than that of Jihadists’ here: ripostelaique.com/on-ne-peut-pas…
13. All these bile-driven so-called ‘intellectual’ philosophies have been thoroughly debunked.

(See for example: Raphael Liogier’s ‘The Myth of Islamization. Essay on a Collective Obsession’.)
14. Governments and the media however, continue to listen and promote these people/groups as intellectual heavyweights. Why?

Because they give legitimacy to those who are ignorant of history and evidence, making them feel important, heard, understood...and smart.
15. So there *will be more of these white supremacist attacks* ... because they’re promoted. The delusion, paranoia, and collective psychosis of these haters is only intensified because they’re immune from scientific reason and evidence.

End. washingtonpost.com/world/europe/n…
