[Thread] New paper by & with @jarretcrawford finds that the personality correlates of generalized prejudice different depending on the operationalization.

Paper: osf.io/zce8v/

#SocSciResearch
The traditional, and narrower operationalization, consistently finds (in our work and previously) that low Agreeableness and low Openness is associated with generalized prejudice.
However a broader operationalization that includes more target groups finds that low Agreeableness is associated with generalized prejudice, but Openness isn't so related anymore.
This suggests that Agreeableness might be particularly linked with prejudice towards a large number of groups. But that Openness (and perhaps other traits) are inconsistently associated with prejudice; it depends on the target group
To get a sense of the (perceived) characteristics of the target groups that might account for these inconsistencies we looked at how the personality-prejudice association varied by features of the target group.
The most consistent group characteristic was perceived ideology of the target group. This replicates some past work. osf.io/tqnes/

A new finding - we think - is that low Extraversion is associated with prejudice towards high status groups.
Overall, (1) Agreeableness may tap into a prejudiced personality. (2) Openness is not necessarily related to prejudice. It depends on the target group. (3) Studying a larger number of groups reveals heterogeneity in the association between personality and prejudice
And hey, cool, I noticed a typo in the thread as soon as I posted it.
