1 / Let's talk about #abortion - the ugly, murderous side of criminalizing abortions. I will tell stories. Today, I'll tell the story of Adelina (not her real name). We were 17 - she and I. I got a call late at night: "she's dead. It's your fault".

2 / She lived in Osasco and had applied to work at the @Bradesco headquarters, known as "God's city" (Cidade de Deus). They were really tight with the Brazilian dictatorship hardliners.

3 / A pregnancy test was mandatory. At Cidade de Deus, the laws were different. It was the beginning of the hard right Christian turn. It turned out she was pregnant and didn't get the job. We were both members of a clandestine left organization.

4 / We were just kids - not clever enough to understand that some folks would take advantage of our idealism. Those were bad guys. They had given me the order to take care of her abortion. I had no idea how: I was a minor.

5 / It was illegal (still is). There was no internet. She disappeared. Later I learned that she found a "fixer": they were ladies that scraped the fetuses off with knitting needles.

6 / Adelina paid what she could for the "procedure" and was dead in two days. Nobody cared. Nobody went to her funeral. When it was my turn (because we were raped by the false revolutionaries), I was taken to another place.

7 / I remember a lot about that place and I will write about it later. I was number 56 that day. I didn't die - I just had my uterus pierced. I had just turned 17. The false revolutionaries tried to make me work while bleeding in fever, the day after the "procedure".

8 / Unlike Adelina, I had a family. They took care of me. Along the years, I met too many Adelinas. Too many girls and women who needed "fixing" and ended up dead. So, for you guys in #Alabama who want to pass this law, you are murderers.
