THREAD
After looking at the platforms, additional information and the leaders debate this is what I am let with. ALL parties will be running a deficit. Oil revenue paid for a lot of things which allowed us to have low taxes 1/ 18

Oil prices crash, we have been through this often. And every time it happens it is the same. Jobs are lost, people's lives go off the rails and the Alberta economy crashes. This time is no different than the last time or the time before. We have some hard choices to make 2/18
Just looking at the top 2 parties. At the end of the next 4 year term #UCP will have us at 86 bill in debt and #abndp will have us at 95 bill in debt. This is a difference of 9 bill over a 4 year term or 2.25 bill per year. So what does each plan get us? 3/18
with NDP we get
-maintain spending in the education system, funding for new enrollments, updated curriculum, protections for LGBQ2+ youth, more teachers for smaller class sizes,
-maintained spending in our Healthcare with spending increase matching inflation and pop growth 4/18
NDP#2
70 more schools built or modernized, twinning and expansion of highways that have become dangerous due to traffic being higher than the infrastructure can accommodate, the Red deer hospital, the cancer center, up graded and expanded transit that works properly 5/18
NDP #3
- affordable day care which allows women to fully participate in society, take control of their own future and independence and allows them to plan for the future and save for retirement. Women will never have equality without this key component. 6/18
NDP #4
-diversification of our economy and our oil and gas sector, this means we will have more jobs in more sectors which will help get us off the boom bust cycle, this means in O&S we will keep the jobs at home instead of shipping them and the revenue to the USA 7/18
NDP #5
- increased workers rights and protections, fair wages including overtime,
- More affordable post secondary with more choices and supports in a wider variety of careers that will be viable now and in the future. Increased training for the jobs of the future 8/18
NDP #6
-A climate Leadership Plan that actually has a chance at dealing with our emissions. A plan that pays for all the costs associated with emission reductions including diversification and renewable technologies in the form of rebates, grants and royalty credits 9/18
By Voting NDP we will get all of that and more for only 2.25 bill more a year.

So what about the other side? What do we get from the UCP for a savings of 2.25 bill a year? And are the savings worth the cost? 10/18
With the UCP we get
-A huge tax cut for the corporations which by their own data will not translate to any benefits for 3 years and even then the benefits are slight.
-A loop hole for companies to get out of paying overtime, get out of protections and rights for workers 11/18
UCP #2
- A referendum that will cost $14-16 million dollars maybe higher and the only thing it will accomplish is a forced conversation which will likely wield zero results.
-A $30 million war room with little effect as it can not over ride the Supreme court of Canada 12/18
UCP #3
-A freeze in spending in Health Care and Education which equates to a 14% cut across the board and no funding for enrollment. no new teachers
-A roll back in protections for LGBQ2+ kids, A roll back to education and a return to unfair % of diploma exams worth. 13/18
UCP #4
-Elimination of the Climate Leadership Plan and Efficiency Alberta which will eliminate all revenue going to diversification or our O&S sector and economy, combating climate change, supports for Home owners to upgrade homes, all community solar projects and more 14/18
UCP #5
-No women's policies. That means no affordable daycare, no policies to protect our reproductive rights, no policies to protect our working rights. If Kenney is true to his word about eliminating the labour laws bill we will be back to mandated heels damaging our health 15/
UCP #6
-cont, they will erase the equality laws, they will put women's right back 5-10+ years
They can defund our specific women's health clinics, While Kenney says he won't reopen the debate, but he is being back by wilberforce and there will be promises for that support 16/18
So the question becomes is it worth the 2.25 bill extra a year to vote NDP? Is it worth the 2.25 bill saving to vote UCP. With Alberta still having the best balance sheet in the country I say it is worth the extra cost BUT it's something you have to decide for you. 17/18
The debt servicing/interest is factor. Kenney isn't being truthful, instead is using lies & fear tactics to win votes. I encourage everyone to seek out nonpartisan sites that will give the real facts. No party is perfect, we just need to decide what most important. 18/18 #abvote
