My wife + daughter were Clinton field workers in LV in 2016 when Biden came to speak. A woman on stage hugged him affectionately. He told the crowd, "Notice she hugged me first?"

In other words: he's known for a while now - BEFORE the current brouhaha - that he needs to dial back his spontaneous PDA - and he's trying. He's been working on it since before he decided to run. We can't really ask for more from anyone than that they "do the work" like that.
