I know Mercer isn’t calling for an actual military coup or think it could happen. But to note that, historically, when armies seize power they don’t think they’re driven by powerlust; they think they’re defending core values against corrupt or ineffectual democratic institutions.

Although he isn’t calling for an actual military coup here, Mercer is contributing (others have done their part) to creating a political environment where respect for & patience with parliamentary democracy is so weak that in a few years idea of ditching it might be mainstream.
