People saying "I don't want a PV it will divide us again" - watch UKIP and rival Farage party launches: it's here ... they will weaponise hatred for the next 7 weeks aided by a BBC platform. The fight for progressive working class values can't be ducked...
Labour is already committed to standing on the PES manifesto ... the left can't fight the EU elections on any other platform than Remain/Reform/Revolt... and for an Europe wide Green New Deal...
The instincts of Labour traditionalists to "get back to our economic agenda" is right - but xenophobic authoritarian nationalism is the threat. The opportunity lies in mobilising progressive Britain to defeat them...
Farage, Batten and Rupert Murdoch will make the EU elections about one issue; Leave. It won't be about unicorn deals or Norway Plus. It will be a 7-week coded attack on 3m EU nationals and all ppl of colour...
The entire progressive part of U.K. politics has to mobilise - if pro-Remain parties win 50%+ of the vote it's a game changer. And as Labour will find out when we get to Brighton in September: Labour is a Remain party and so are the unions.

3/ Labour shadow cabinet at odds over 2 ways forward: a) put Customs Union and Second Referendum to separate votes in parliament (ensuring the PV falls) b) Insist they are a single legislative package. Only the latter fulfils party policy...

Brexit, the PV, class and northern Englishness... a thread 1/ Some Shadow Cabinet ppl claiming their opposition to PV is about class and "north v south" - as if the poor of London, Bristol, York, and Glasgow are not working class? It's a very dangerous argument...
2/ Are @MaryCreaghMP or @JamesFrith not "northern"? No comrades the difference is political: it's about recognising that hard Brexit is the project of racists, xenophobes and a posh elite - and if we can't get a soft Brexit we have to stop Brexit...
3/ Accepting the elite's cultural definition of class - white, male, industrial, low skill - has nothing to do with either social democracy or Marxism: a class forms itself in struggle around a project...

A summary and reaction to May's bombshell Brexit statement 1/ She's asking for a new A50 delay so that either cross-party talks or an exhaustive Commons vote can produce a new deal. WA has to stand but changes to future arrangement allowed...
2/ What it means: May has bottled out of a fourth vote; bottled out of an election and bottled out of No Deal. All to be welcomed but I can't seeing the KKK-inspired crazies of the Tory right being happy...
3/ May's entire strategy of reliance on Tory votes to get a deal through is over. Finished. Kaput. Two years of political energy, 29 ministerial careers, hours of legislative time, civil service work-hours - completely wasted...

Ignoring the sabateurs denies them soundbites to endlessly manipulate in lieu of discussing Labour's manifesto. They can't attack him on that. It is what this country wants & needs.
What's perceived as weakness in JC is a refusal to let them dictate his agenda. 2/
The chance afforded by brexit to split the Tories in half is real, rare & imminent. If JC retains the whip till brexit is resolved Tingers cannot come out unscathed. They'll either have to vote FOR makin a JC gov more likely or break the whip, enabling Tories & losing all cred 3/

@IanDunt @BBCNews Just watched the 17.10 News Bulletin and now the 22.10. The piece about the #PeoplesVoteMarch opened with a statement saying that it was ‘THOUGHT to be the largest Brexit demonstration to date’. Face slap. Also time was given to #Farage's 'much smaller demonstration
@IanDunt @BBCNews but one of a series' and further time given 10? Leave supporters who were on the march. In 17.10 2 mins was given to the March, 1 min to Leave / Ukip events. Ridiculous. Also an interview with Farage but no i'view with anyone from #PeoplesVote. Or from Labour or Cons hierarchy

But I have zero trust that the people in Congress who need to do the right thing, will.
I often see people shocked! at the injustice of it all. For me, I am just totally too close to the situation to be shocked. About any of it.
I operate from doubt most of the time tho I am...
optimistic. Because I believe in the power of good people and progress. But I also have a good idea of how power works & I have watched congresspeople throw away their own voters interests time and time and time again. It isnt specific to one party, either.

1/ Some thoughts on #WindrushGenerarion and why the immigration system is so badly broken. Hope I can offer a bit of insight having acted for both immigrants and the Home Office for many years (I no longer act for the HO).
2/ First thing’s first. I don’t really blame Theresa May or Amber Rudd for what’s happened - I see them as products of a political choice made many years ago to cut net immigration to ridiculously low numbers - 100,000 or so.
3/ That choice, which we need to remember was a popular one, created the modern immigration system. In a sense the voters, not Theresa May, are the culprit here.
